Jaguar E-Type Six-Cylinder Originality Guide
by Dr. Thomas F. Haddock with Dr. Michael C. Mueller

This book on Jaguar E-type originality is based on research spanning almost five decades, and Drs. Haddock and Mueller include extensive new information from an exhaustive four-year examination of the Mueller collection of over fifty E-types. As such, the book is archaeological in nature, based more on observations of cars than on factory publications or other literature. The examination of principally un-restored cars, many partly or completely disassembled and still retaining their original configuration, permitted discovery of much detailed information not reported before. The large volume of data used in the compilation of this work permitted statistical analysis of production changes that would be impossible with a smaller data-set. It significantly advances the understanding of the original configuration of these remarkable cars.

A few of the many topics treated in the book are:
  • Variations between early and late E-type Moss transmissions
  • An analysis of engine block and head part numbers and configurations, especially the complex and numerous variations of 4.2-liter engine blocks
  • A review of the myriad of small sheet-metal variations in the tub, bonnet and doors, especially the subtle changes in coupe bodywork in early in 3.8-liter E-type production
  • Hidden markings on instruments
  • Review of the subtle variations in the early cooling fan motors
  • Coupe sun-visor evolution
  • Markings and tags on carburetors
  • Markings on the various tires originally supplied on E-types

  • Hard cover with dust jacket
  • 516 pages
  • 1568 black and white, and color photographs
  • 15 MyRewards Points with purchase

Jaguar E-Type Six-Cylinder Originality Guide
Author Biography

Dr. Thomas F. Haddock is the author of two Jaguar books Jaguar E-Type 6 & 12 Cylinder Restoration Guide, and its precursor Jaguar E-Type Six-Cylinder Restoration & Originality Guide. The first was the Classic Motorbooks Number Two Best Seller when introduced, and each has gone into several reprints. Dr. Haddock has lectured on E-type originality at JCNA meetings, and has acted as a consultant in the production of the JNCA judging guide for E-types. He has experience in archaeology and the conservation of technical and artistic artifacts.

Dr. Michael C. Mueller is an internationally recognized expert on Jaguar sports cars. He is on the JCNA Concourse Committee, and is an active JCNA concourse judge. His collection includes approximately 50 E-types, including many early-production examples, as well as truckloads of NOS and rare parts. The majority of the cars are un-restored and still show their initial configurations. This collection is a significant library of information on the detailed evolution of the E-type.

Excellent for 3.8 E-type owners May 30, 2017
Reviewer: Alan Derrick from CALLANDER, Stirling United Kingdom
The level of detail presented on the 3.8 litre series 1 cars is fantastic. However, the details become rather less comprehensive for 4.2 series 1 and series 2 models. e.g. there are clear photos of variations on the 3.8 door drainage ducts but for the 4.2 it is merely stated that the ducts were changed at some point.
Even for owners of the early cars there are details left unexplored. Whereas there is considerable detail of casting marks on major components such as the engine block, the originality of which to a particular car is relatively easy to authenticate via serial numbers and production records, there are no descriptions or photographs of components which are less likely to have survived, such as door seal cross sections and profiles.

Overall, it is a fantastic reference book for the 3.8 litre enthusiast but represents less good value for the owners of 4.2 litre cars. It would perhaps have been better to have presented information only on the 3.8 litre cars.

Great source of information May 26, 2017
Reviewer: John Hassiepen from Peoria, IL United States
I don't have enough personal experience with original 6 cylinder E-Types to know whether or not this book is the "authority".  But if it isn't, it sure fooled me!

A great book while not definitive, contains a lot of useful information with pictures. Well worth the money and a great addition to my library.

Reviewer: DriverSource from Houston, TX United States
We have been using Dr. Haddock's previous E-Type Restoration Guide as reference for years now. His newest publication: Jaguar E-Type Six Cylinder -
Originality Guide simply is THE best E-Type book ever compiled with its remarkable level of detail and accuracy. A most cherished resource in our motoring library.
