A very good book BUT I felt the motor and running gear which were used in the racing version warranted a more thorough description than the single page of extracts from a motor magazine of the era it was a tour de force of attention to detail and utterly reliable although quite complex

A good story about a fellow engineer. You get some input as to how the engineering mind works. Also interesting from a purely historical setting, especially the parts about his time during the war years.

5 of 5 Uhlenhaut - a true story April 17, 2017

Rudolf Uhlenhaut is a name synonymous with the development and re-birth of the Post War Mercedes.   Seemingly a totally private person who was able to split his devotion between Mercedes Benz engineering and his beloved family.   This was a much needed biography that shows the man for who he really was, a brilliant engineer, a remarkable designer and a brilliant driver.  My own favourite motor car has always been the Uhlenhaut 300 SLR Coupe.   I feel that I now know the man behind this unique pair of cars.   Dave Norton

As an engineer, racer and auto historian myself, I know that Rudolf Uhlenhaut.was one of the great engineers in the auto racing world.  I have been looking forward to the English translation of this book.  It's a nice, but brief, biography leaning more to photographs than text.  The photo's are great, but I would like to know even more about the man and his life.

An outstanding book on one of the most iconic engineers in the automotive industry. An excellent read, and a must have for anyone's motoring library.
