ROLLS-ROYCE MOTOR CARS CHINA AND DALTON WATSON LAUNCH CHINESE EDITION OF

The Goodwood Phantom
August 2005

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and Dalton Watson Fine Books today announced the publication of a Chinese edition of The Goodwood Phantom, by automobile historian Malcolm Tucker. It is the first Rolls-Royce book published in Chinese and the first Dalton Watson book published in a language other than English.

“We’ve seen great enthusiasm about the Phantom and the Rolls-Royce marque in Greater China, and not just among our customers,” said Colin Kelly, Regional Director, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Asia Pacific. “The Goodwood Phantom should be of interest to both Chinese-speaking Rolls-Royce owners and the large and growing group of automobile connoisseurs in Greater China. That Rolls-Royce and Dalton Watson would produce a Chinese edition shows our commitment to and confidence in this promising market.”

The introduction of the new book follows several important moves by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Greater China, its biggest market in Asia. In April, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO Ian Robertson introduced Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ latest model, the Phantom with extended wheelbase (EWB) at the Shanghai, China motor show and announced that Shanghai’s prestigious Pudong Shangri-La would be the first hotel in Asia to own a new Rolls-Royce Phantom. In early June, the EWB also was introduced in Hong Kong, which boasts the most Rolls-Royce Motor Cars per square mile of any city in the world. Both cities played host to the Rolls-Royce Centenary experimental car, named 100EX, during its world tour to celebrate Rolls-Royce’s 100th anniversary.

Translated in China and printed in Singapore, The Goodwood Phantom covers the history of BMW's acquisition of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, the construction of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ new production facility in Goodwood, Sussex, and the design and manufacture of the Rolls-Royce Phantom.
