NOW AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE

Marcello Gandini’s status as one of the most exceptional automobile designers is undisputed. Whether he attains the title of the greatest designer ever is contingent on time and the evolving landscape of automobile design. Nonetheless, it is incontestable that Gandini wielded a profoundly significant influence on automobile design throughout the latter half of the 20th century, and his impact endures well into the 21st century.
From iconic vehicles such as the Lamborghini Miura to the Maserati Quattroporte IV, the unassuming Audi 50/VW Polo to the remarkable Cizeta V16T, Gandini crafted some of the most pivotal cars in automotive history.
This updated edition encapsulates the most crucial, as well as some of his lesser-known gems. It features additional never-before-seen projects and a greater number of images, all presented in a more compact format.

 MOWO 187.jpg) English translation:
Without a doubt, there are a few
automotive designers who stand out from the crowd—designers who have made
history and shaped our perception of the automobile. Sergio Pininfarina,
Giorgetto Giugiaro, and Marcello Gandini undoubtedly belong to this small,
elite group.
Gandini's work includes models that
remain groundbreaking to this day: the stunning Lamborghini Miura, the Alfa
Romeo Carabo—the first car to feature the legendary scissor doors later adopted
by the Lamborghini Countach—the Lancia Stratos Zero, which boasted the most
radical wedge shape of all time, and the Maserati Khamsin, with its
asymmetrical hood vents. The Fiat X1/9, with its wedge-shaped design, was a
dream car for many young enthusiasts for years.
In short, Gandini, who passed away
last March, created timeless icons. The Indian automotive historian Gautam Sen,
who lives in Paris, had already dedicated a comprehensive biography to Marcello
Gandini years ago, though it has long been out of print. Following Gandini's
death, Sen set out to revise, expand, and update his definitive work with the
latest insights.
The result—like all books from the
American publisher Dalton Watson—is informative, well-designed, and impeccably
printed. While the original two-volume edition housed in a slipcase has been
condensed into a single heavyweight book for its second edition, likely due to
cost considerations, the content has been thoroughly updated and remains as
relevant as ever. For anyone interested in automotive design and Marcello
Gandini’s work, this book is an essential read—even if, as is often the case,
it is only available in English.
