STEVE MCQUEEN: THE LAST MILE

Posted on January 3, 2011

In 2006 Barbara McQueen co-authored the book, ‘Steve McQueen, The Last Mile’. This book chronicles their three year relationship, leading up to Steve’s passing in 1980. It gives the public entrance into their personal affairs away from the big screen.

During the last few years of Steve’s life he grew tired of the movie industry. In place of the sliver screen, he and Barbara toured the United State country side in a vintage Ford pick-up and relaxed on his ranch in Santa Paula. Steve grew a beard and no matter what they did, he was sure to have cooler with a six pack of Old Milwaukee or Coors by his side. They became ordinary people doing ordinary things.

Barbara writes: ‘He started out every morning in the same manner: he work up around 8.30 or 9.00AM, had a cup of coffee and chased it down with a can of Old Milwaukee beer. And if there was any chocolate cake left over from the night before, he’d have a healthy slice of that as well.’ That’s a true breakfast of champions!
